A great park by any name! Camp Peña Colorado, Fort Peña Park, The Post: Post Park in Marathon has many names. Located 5 miles south on Avenue D, it is a treasure in Marathon.

This county run park is free and open to the public. Dozens of picnic tables, onsite charcoal grills and public restrooms make this a great place to have a barbecue or picnic.

The stocked pond is a popular fishing spot and the large tree canopy makes this a great birding site.

The pond is fed by a natural spring and is a lifeline for wildlife in the desert. It was once the site of a U.S. Army post and has a rich history.

The resident ducks are entertaining. If you're going to feed the ducks, we recommend fresh or frozen veggies like peas or corn (not canned). Feeding ducks bread products can lead to health problems.

Post Park is surrounded by incredible geology. The park is open to the public but is surrounded by private land, so be respectful and do not trespass.

Post Park hosts many parties throughout the year. The 4th of July dance takes place on the outdoor dance floor with a live band. This dance has been taking place for over a hundred years!

There are also cookoffs and other events in this community park.

Enjoy your time at this desert oasis in Marathon!

What a lovely little oasis! Post Park sounds like a perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon. I especially appreciate that it's free and open to the public. Birding and fishing by a natural spring in the middle of the desert? That's something special. Makes me almost want to start a whole new life there! It's just like in Bitlife , choosing the perfect location is half the fun.
